HORROR MY FRIEND
Adelaide’s favourite fuzz rockers Horror My Friend today return with their first release of 2019, new single ‘Turned Loose’. The single comes alongside the news of the band’s first international tour of the UK and Europe, where they will appear at several festival dates, including performances at The Great Escape Festival, Groezrock and a tour in support of fellow Aussies Kingswood.
The track marks the band’s most refined work to date, commenting on the simple idea of ‘togetherness’, filtering it through a dynamic wave of enveloping fuzz, abrasive noise and infectious hooks.
“Lyrics are normally an afterthought when writing, and this song was no different, but thematically ‘togetherness’ is a word that sums up the track,” says vocalist, Josh Battersby. “Recording this track was super fun as it allowed us to spend quality time with our best bud Richard Bowers. He’s a beautiful nerd and played a huge part in how this song turned out!”
Time and time again, Adelaide’s best-loved noisy heroes Horror My Friend have proven themselves to be one of Australia’s up and coming purveyors of barely controlled noise and fuzz. With new single ‘Turned Loose’ and 2018 album ‘Home Life’ reminding Australia of their ability to combine noise and fuzz with infectious melody, it’s no wonder Horror My Friend caught the eye of international agency X-Ray Touring in 2018.
Now the band have announced their biggest shows to date, touring the UK and Europe for the first time, including dates at The Great Escape and Groezrock.
Honing a unique, yet evocative sound, reminiscent of 90’s pioneers Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Swirlies and taking cues from German legends Neu!, along with relative newcomers DIIV,
Horror My Friend summon the spirit of alternative rock and shoe gaze, whilst breaking new ground and embedding themselves firmly in the present. Within their relatively short career, Horror My Friend have caused a stir and garnered critical acclaim both nationally and internationally. They’ve turned heads with a strong commitment to chaotic yet commanding live shows, along with the strength and maturity of their song writing, proudly displayed on ‘Turned Loose’, along with 2016’s seminal debut album ‘Stay In, Do Nothing’ and 2018’s ‘Home Life.
Causing a ruckus on Australia’s live circuit, Horror My Friend have toured nationally with the likes of Hockey Dad, Gyroscope, The Cribs (UK), Die! Die! Die! (NZ) and Pity Sex (USA), among others, whilst locally supporting Violent Soho, Cold Chisel, Swervedriver (UK) and more. The band have also earned themselves an impressive and ever-growing resume of festival appearances, including Groovin’ The Moo, Yours & Owls Festival, BIGSOUND, Blurst of Times, and Poison City Weekender.
With the announcement of their new single ‘Turned Loose’, released through Rad/Music Farmers as their first ever release, the trio begin a whirlwind 2019. Touring through the UK and Europe with fellow Aussies Kingswood, along with a string of huge festival dates, Horror My Friend have taken a step up within Australia and into the international arena.
